Coal is a climate activist’s worst nightmare – it produces the most carbon dioxide of all the fossil fuels. It can cause disease in miners and people breathing in the toxins produced when it burns.

Coal production in New Zealand sharply dropped from 2010 to 2015, but has started to creep up again even as the country pledged to shift away from fossil fuels.
