Housing construction costs may get worse before they get better

There has been no let-up in the increase in housing construction costs, with new figures showing they increased by double the usual pace in the three months ending September.

Nationally, costs were up 1.6 per cent over the quarter, according to CoreLogic’s Cordell Construction Cost Index.

That was twice the typical quarterly increase of 0.8 per cent, although down on the 2.2 per cent recorded in the previous quarter.
