Police are urging motorists to drive safely after a recent roading operation revealed a disturbing number of drivers not wearing their seatbelt in Otago.

Southern District Police is carrying out a road policing operation across the district this weekend.

People in 30 vehicles stopped during a three-day roading operation in Milton were not wearing their seatbelts.

Southern District road policing manager Inspector Amelia Steel said the latest operation targeted drivers not wearing sealtbelts, driving distracted, or impaired by alcohol, drugs or fatigue, and driving too fast for the conditions.
