Richard Hanson’s downtown Auckland souvenir shop started to feel the chill from Covid-19 in January 2020 when China closed its borders to outbound tourists.

Aotea New Zealand has been on Lower Albert Street since 1980 and before the latest alert level 4, turnover was down 90 per cent on pre-Covid times, with stores in four other centres similarly hit.
