About:
I am a health & safety professional and the principal consultant for EnviroSafe Consulting Limited, based in Auckland. People are my passion and small and medium businesses are the focus.
I have a foundation in commercial air transport operations and extensive knowledge from working in high-risk, highly regulated and complex environments. I have experience in a number of industry sectors including manufacturing, maintenance, construction, landscaping and horticulture production, metals recovery, and steel production.
Whilst risk is inherently present in all aspects of our lives, I have a particular passion for small-to-medium sized business-related risk. COVID-19 has highlighted the impact the macro environment has on the viability of many smaller businesses. I want to help these businesses increase their capacity for change, thereby increasing resilience in this world of uncertainty.

About
My interest in risk management and situational awareness was triggered at University, with my first trip into the depths of a working underground coal mine. In my experience, there is nothing like stepping into the lift cage of a deep mine to build awareness of risks and engineering standards.
I am a director of Extrinsic Services Ltd, which was incorporated in 1999. Extrinsic melds the craft of intelligence with risk management and project disciplines to help organisations explore and own their unique futures. We work with people, companies and organisations that want to do things outside of the ordinary and routine – through innovation, and by adopting novel and unusual ways of looking at the world. I am also a partner of Business Cycles, which has a track record in horticulture.
In summary, my work can be described as helping organisations to create certainty of outcome by identifying and managing uncertainties. Over the last 40 years I have worked with more than fifty organisations; this rich mosaic of practical experience provides me with insights into governance structures, organisational design, business transformation, and project disciplines.
I was honoured to be appointed to the Audit and Risk Committee of the Parliamentary Counsel Office in 2014, and to become the first non-lawyer to Chair that Committee.
