Coronavirus: The rights of employees and employers during Covid lockdown

With the raised coronavirus alert levels in New Zealand after the emergence of Covid-19 cases in Auckland, there will also be a return of issues concerning New Zealand workers.

Auckland is at alert level 3, and the rest of the country is at alert level 2, ahead of a government announcement on Friday afternoon.

There has been one situation already where Auckland workers were told by their employer they had to take leave.

Americold, the cool store business at the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, sent a message to employees on Thursday evening saying staff affected by the closure of its facilities would have their leave entitlements extended to go into negative balance.
