Covid-19: Doctor welcomes decision to offer pregnant women vaccine

Opening the border to Australia – and any other country – will increase the risk of Covid-19 transmission and severe outcomes for pregnant people, an Auckland doctor says.

During a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield announced pregnant people would now be offered the Pfizer vaccine at any stage of their pregnancy.

It comes after technical advisors agreed the risk of severe outcomes from Covid-19 infection were significantly higher for pregnant people than the general population.
