A defiant paraglider was spotted soaring above Mt Maunganui on Monday.

The flight was a blatant breach of the Covid-19 lockdown but at least the culprit knew when they were going to land and where.

New Zealand, unfortunately, does not. The mood of uncertainty and frustration tightened its grip on the country this week as the number of Covid-19 infections mounted but not in numbers that made decisions inevitable or clear-cut.
