Experts create tool to better predict volcano ash fall activity

A TV One article.

A ground-breaking Earthquake Commission – EQC-funded project by GNS Science and MetService New Zealand, is combining eruption scenarios with weather forecasting to better predict the likelihood of an area being affected by ashfall in future volcanic eruptions.

Forecasting models being developed by this project will be able to provide more accurate estimates of how much ash will land in a certain area and when it is likely to arrive, allowing communities and emergency managers to better prepare for and take action after an eruption.
