Kāinga Ora to begin issuing building consents in less than two weeks

State housing agency Kāinga Ora expects to start granting its own building consents later this month.

The housing organisation will be effectively the first nationally accredited building consent authority, a rare power outside local councils.

Consentium, as the new agency will be called, will begin work from March 22, with the aim of speeding up the rollout of much needed public housing.
