Maternity safety officers to be appointed to DHBs

Maternity safety officers will be appointed to hospitals nationwide to monitor women’s experiences and report back to the Government.

Associate Minister of Health Ayesha Verrall, who confirmed the move, said the Government is also committed to introducing primary HPV testing, but that it would need to be done very “sequentially and carefully” in order to make sure the programme is safe. HPV immunisation rates are currently lagging well behind the national target.
