Netsafe meets social media execs over online safety code

Can the big social media platforms work with a Crown-backed agency for a safer internet, with less harmful content and bullying?

Netsafe CEO Martin Cocker is meeting – in most cases virtually – with policy executives from Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Google and Amazon-owned Twitch in an effort to hammer out a craft Online Safety Code of Practice.

Cocker anticipates the draft code will be put together over August and September, with public consultation over the following two months, then the final version by Christmas.
