A new police team will crack down on abusive retail customers.

Police Commissioner Andrew Coster announced the establishment of the National Retail Investigation Support Unit on Monday, to target high priority repeat retail offending.

Coster made the announcement today at the Retail NZ Summit in Wellington.

The unit will focus on the safety of retail staff, as well as financial crimes.
