New Zealand's sad statistics show the challenge for suicide prevention

A slight dip in the number of suspected suicides throughout New Zealand is being treated cautiously by Manawatū observers.

Statistics released by chief coroner Deborah Marshall showed a provisional number of 607 deaths in the year to the end of June 2020, down from 628 the year before.

In the MidCentral Health district, the number was 22, down from 29 the previous year.
