Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake (NHC) and Tonkin + Taylor are pleased to re-invite you to our rescheduled webinar introducing the National Liquefaction Model (NLM). Thank you for your patience if you had registered for the February session.
This session is designed for people working in the finance/insurance sector, including risk modellers, portfolio managers, pricing analysts and reinsurers.
It’s taking place Wednesday 20 May, 2-3pm online, via Teams.
Register here: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/bf3f3a59-c204-4f1c-a967-2228ccebbb7b@86a6f104-40bb-42f9-80b8-db92c7ff68b2
What is the NLM?
The NLM is the country’s first nationally consistent model for understanding liquefaction risk across the country. It’s based on the latest liquefaction science, which has grown significantly since the Canterbury earthquakes.
The model gives us a big-picture view of where liquefaction could occur during earthquakes, helping us understanding potential damage and losses from future events. It’s also designed to support people who work in risk reduction – like council planners, policy developers and insurance providers – which is why we’re making it available to others.
What we’ll cover:
- What the NLM is, why it was developed, and how it works
- How NLM can be used in loss modelling
- Use cases for exposure modelling and reinsurance planning
- Limitations (including why it’s not for site-specific pricing)
- How to access the model, as well as support, technical documentation, and future update
If you can’t make the scheduled time
The webinar will be recorded and shared with everyone who registers after the session, along with a link to the NLM Portal.
Other upcoming webinars
We are also running two additional webinars tailored to local and central government and general audiences. If one of these would be a better fit for you, please email [email protected].
